About Manual Aari Work

Manual aari work is our finest grade of Kashmiri aari embroidery. Aari is a chain stitch made with a hooked needle, the aari, on cloth stretched over a frame. In our Manual Aari pieces every motif is traced and worked by the artisan on the frame, fuller and closer than our standard Aari line and slower to make, which is why they cost more. It is hand-assisted manual work, made in Kashmir.

What is here. Kashmiri pherans in cashmilon wool, the long, loose winter robe of the valley, and cotton co-ord sets for the warmer months. The winter pherans are also part of Haba Khatoon, our winter collection.

Size. The pherans are free size and cut loose: a 48 to 50 inch bust and 42 to 44 inches long, fitting up to XL. Co-ord sets are sold by bust size. Check the measurements on each product page.

Care. Dry clean only, and never wring the embroidery. Store folded, away from damp.

How do I care for aari embroidery?

Dry clean only. Do not machine wash or wring the embroidery, and store the piece folded, away from damp.
